Gavin cooks up a storm for the grief care place Posted by Kristie

blog gcpGavin was one of 25 celebrity chefs that cooked up their specialty to support the Grief Care Place. Over 225 people attended the Gourmet Grapes and Guys event held at Roses Run Country Club. Gavin's Chocolate Fantasy was the dessert of the day.

The Grief Care Place opened its doors in June of 1997. It offers a SAFE PLACE where those grieving the death of a loved one can find support, education, understanding, and a caring place to heal. The center serves individuals of all ages, offers a home-like atmosphere and is a non-denominational faith based organization where those of strong faith or those of none can come comfortably.

The Grief Care Place educates participants about grief and provides caring volunteers who walk alongside and companion them during the grieving/healing process.

Jameson Shaw Balayage Acadamy Posted by Kristie

The designers at Gavin Scott Salon and Spa discovered a great new hair coloring technique called Balayage. Suzanne Szabo, a master stylist with Jameson Shaw Hairdressers, based in Atlanta, treated them to a day full of fun as they mastered this creative way of "hair Painting."
blog balayage

Balayage is a hair coloring technique designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root. Many stars and models use this process on their hair, and in response to popular demand, many salons offer it, especially in urban areas. Some pride themselves on their technique, considering themselves artisans of the craft and offering training to people who are interested in learning it

This method of coloring emerged in Paris in the 1970s; the name is French for “to sweep,” a reference to the way in which the color is applied. After it was exported to the United States, balayage became extremely popular in the late 1990s. In the United States, the word is sometimes spelled “balliage.”

When hair is colored with the balayage process, the highlights are painted on by hand in a sweeping motion that moves from the base to the tip of the hair. At the base, the color is applied very lightly, while at the tip, the color is very heavy. The result is a chunky highlight that looks naturally sunbleached, and as the hair grows out, the root will be concealed for the first few months by the thinner color applied to the base of the hair.

Gavin Scott Honors Corporal Dillon Posted by Kristie

On August 18, 2013, Gavin Scott Salon and Spa sponsored a back to school carnival at the Shoppes of Stow Plaza. We raised $3200 dollars for Freedom House of Kent in the memory of Corporal Benjamin Charles Dillon, a local marine who was killed in action.

The Freedom House of Kent's mission is to support homeless veterans in our community in their efforts to achieve greater self-sufficiency. Including the ability to secure and maintain permanent housing. Support will be provided through intensive case management and access to community resources dedicated to enhancing self-sufficiency, and will reflect the individual needs of those served.

Stow-Munroe Falls Relay for Life Posted by Kristie

blog relayGood times had by all at the 2013 Stow-Munroe Falls Relay for Life. Anne Davis and Annastasia Rassner cut 12 ponytails which were sent to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

The highlight of the day was the shaving of Brad Bebout's head! Brad agreed to have his head shaved if we raised $500. Consider the picture to the right proof of our success.
