On May 11, 2013, Gavin Scott Salon and Spa became 1 of 6 salons within 150 miles to be certified in the Arrojo American Wave System.
Using an innovative, ionic waving lotion the product penetrates the hair shaft gently, without roughing the cuticle or making it swell, which is what old-fashioned perms used to do. The ionic lotion reduces stress on tresses, creates a smoother cuticle, and makes hair fabulous and full. Instead of setting hair with hard tools, we combine soft tools with editorial techniques, so looks are fashion-forward, not frumpy.
With American Waves we can offer the permanent creation of wave and curl, volumes and fullness, we can make hair more or less wavy or curly, we can use it to control frizz, add texture, movement or volume. It's long-lasting, with loose waves only needing a redo every three months. And instead of chemical perms, it smells of eucalyptus.

Thanks to all of the amazing clients, Gavin Scott Salon and Spa raised $2400.00 for The Rape Crisis Center of Median and Summit Counties.
Our biggest fundraising effort was our men's night held on April 10. The salon was filled with men getting their hair cut, "dude" pedicures and manicures. Portage Country Club, Dick's Sporting Goods, Main Street Tickets donated items to our raffle. 100% of the sales and raffle tickets went to our Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Team, which walked on April, 26, in Downtown Akron
The mission behind the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is to change the way individuals view gender roles. The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit will raise community awareness of sexual violence and gain support to our programming through this conscience raising event. This year as we celebrate the 9th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes at Downtown Akron's Lock 3 Park we focus on the heroism of survivors and bystanders as they speak-out and step-up. In raising awareness, we can challenge the way we, as human beings, interact with one another and elevate our societies respect for our differences.
Running a business is challenging – even in the best of times. And in today’s economic climate, it can be even more daunting. But there are success stories – and Gavin Scott Salon and Spa is an impressive example, recently winning a Business Growth Award from the Cascade Capital Corporation.
“We are thrilled to be recognized as a successful part of our community,” says Kristie Warner, co-owner of the salon. “And while we are purposeful in how we manage our business, we know it is our team and our clients who are the fundamental reasons for our success.”
The Business Growth Award honors small businesses in a seven county area that have significantly increased sales and/or employment over the past five years. In four short years of business, Gavin Scott Salon and Spa easily met these criteria by increasing sales by 199 percent and hiring 11 additional employees. This success is also apparent in the current physical expansion of the salon, which is adding 1565 square feet to its Darrow Road location.
In addition to attention to the bottom line, the salon also focuses on supporting a different community program every eight weeks including homeless shelters, the humane society and Akron Children’s Hospital. “We are proud to have created a thriving company,” notes Warner, “but we are even more honored that, along with our staff and clients, we have been able to contribute to a variety of worthy charitable organizations.”
Gavin Scott Salon and Spa is located at 4960 B Darrow Road in Stow. For more information, call the salon at 330-650-4450.
Team oriented and level-headed… improved the environment and increases the bottom line… raises funds for charities and volunteers for Project Homeless Connect… who wouldn't welcome an employee with these attributes? And these are just a few of the examples given by Gavin Scott Salon and Spa co-owner Kristie Warner when nominating stylist Amanda Blake for Goodwill Industries' Shining Star recognition program. Out of 42 nominees, Amanda was chosen as one of their top five!
Gavin Scott was recently voted 1st place "Best Women's Hair Salon" in the "Best of City" issue of Akron Life Magazine. We also received 2nd place for the "Best Massage" category.
